# it's brown
and wet and tangy. and has square lumps of... stuff in it that are even tangier.
I'm not sure what they are, and it's vile stuff when eaten on it's own.

But slap it on some cheese and slip that between a couple of slices of bread and it's quite nice.

# judging by your name
i'd wager you'd be an expert.

# pickle on cheese on toast?
an interesting combination of hotness and coldness...

would probably be a bit grim.

# okay...
i just found this, and now i'm even more intrigued. one medium swede?

# Yes
a swede who can commune with the spirits - essential ingredient. (badum-tish)

I didn't realise it had garlic in it. And Worcester sauce. Worcester sauce has fish in it (well, anchovies if they can be classed as fish, evil little bastards that they are).

Thinking about it, it is a unique sort of substance. I suppose the closest thing taste-wise would be picalilly, if you've ever had that.

# i can't even fathom what that is.
i feel like such a redneck.

# it's like pickle
only bright yellow and has great big wads of cauliflower in it.
I feel like I'm sinking into the surreal world of pickled comestibles now, so I'll stop.

And don't feel bad. I only found out what picalilly was about 6 months ago and they've been stocking it in supermarkets here for the last 20 years.

# that sounds like something my great aunt used to make
it was like a jar of spicy sweet mustard with huge chunks of cauliflower in it. i looooooveded it.
(, Tue 16 Dec 2003, 8:39, archived)
# yep, that's the stuff
(, Tue 16 Dec 2003, 8:44, archived)
# no - that is a perfectly acceptable combo in my mouth
it tastes very nice - you should also try mayonnaise.

# cheese and mayonnaise?
dairy overload!

Still not comfortable with this whole cold spread on hot cheese thing. But then I suppose it's not that much different to cold philadelphia on hot toast, or cold jam. Though jam and cheese would be horrible.
