"A monkey wedding" used to describe the same weather phenomenomenon - The guy who used it was south african I think.

South African you say... I shall have to quiz the old dear about whether there are any family connections to that particularly awful example of what home-rule does to these upstart colonies. I mean, really... "Dominions"? What's the point, eh? Look what's happened to 'em - South Africa, bunch of racists, the rest are criminals; Australia, bunch of racist criminals; Canada, mostly French, the rest practically yanks; New Zealand, full of sodding hobbits. Disaster. And now they're contemplating letting the Irish govern themselves... I despair, I really do...
