if you go to resize imageyou get two wee tick boxes at the bottom one says 'constrain proportions' and the other says 'resample image' (usually with bicubic or something beside it)
turn off resampling if you want your pics to stay pixelly when you enlarge them.
but if you shrink pics without resampling, they usually look pants
