hmmmmmm... i'm getting a laptop for uni in the summer and i plan to get a yellow dog linux powerbookto go with my linux/W2K dual boot
personally i like both linux and OS X because using either you feel like there are people around who are willing to give you a hand with stuff when you slip up and also because with either you feel you are using a powerful tool
i don't dislike windows at all, it just doesn't inspire any emotional involvement from me

I get very wound up by a lot of Mac users because, in my experience, they tend to be non-technical, but very fond of quoting Apple propaganda about how massively superior the Mac is to everything else..
I know that's unrelated, but hints of Mac zealotry have a tendency to set me off ;)

yeah it does tend to get some people into fanboy modebut mac OS X really is rather nice and rater well put together
