connect together with appropriate cable. no need for a hub for just two machines.
Start windows.
windows 98se or newer will do everything for you.
Run internet connection sharing wizard first on the pc with the cablemodem attatched then on the other one.
Done.
Cost..about £25 to £30
Time..about ten mins.

same here...10/100 cards are super cheap, but make sure you get a crossover network cable, not a regular one, if you aint going the hub route.
