Explanation of Osmotic Activity.If the water potential on the left hand side was affeted by an osmotiaclly active substance such as salt thus causing the water potential to fall below zero, and the substance on hte left hand side was pure water thus having a water potential of 0, water would, move, by osmosis from the left to the right hand side across the *partially permeable* membrane.
