That the halo effect is the Sun's corona during a total eclipse, and that during totallity the details on the moon's surface can't be seen due to the brightness of the corona.

A lunar eclipse is when the Earth casts a shadow over the Moon, as opposed to solar where the Moon casts a shadow over the Earth
