You're a student, don't tell me you don't have a credit card...

# i don't!
my mum made me promise not to get a credit card! I'm stuck with a debit card, i'm guessing that's not good enough then?

# don't know
I never use a debit card online due to security and legal protection.
If you buy something on the net and it never arrives, the credit card company pay (honestly. Financial Services and Consumer Credit Acts) - providing you have taken reasonable steps to protect your number etc etc.
If you're on a student account, it'll cost you nothing, you can set it up to pay off totally by direct debit to your current account after every bill; plus you build up a good credit history which can save you money in the future AND you can use them abroad (just try using that Switch card in France or Spain, go on, I dare you).

/not trying to sell one to you, but so long as you don't fall into the trap of letting your balance build up, they're a good thing to have.
