If I had imageready it would be easy and take a fraction of the time.

...but I animate things manually with image composer and MS gif animator.

What I'm trying now (when necessary) is to cut transparent holes out of the frames to lower the file sizes, while still masking the previous frame.

I tried this years ago but I fucked it up... it seems to work with hard edges, though.

Damn fiddly business.
