Words change, that's true.How they are used changes but not always for the better. Why should calling someone 'gay' mean: Sad, shitty, freakish, boring, pervert, weirdo?
Homosexual people took on the word to mean homosexual, ignorant people responded by changing the definition of the word to become an insult.
'Queer' was used as an insult, homosexuals took on the word as something to be proud of so in that instance it was something positive and disarmed the bigots.
I'm all in favour of disarming the bigots and not pandering to ignorance because it seems to be a bit-of-a-laff. Just like the racist humour of the 70's with Love Thy Neighbour and Alf Garnett etc.
