then try the first optionof easy video splitter ( you can get a trial from download.com ) or failing that install the trial of nero reloaded and use recode to take what you need. It's all a bit technical to go into here but try that website and post on the forums there, you will get a perfect reply detailing the tools you will need.
edit. if you rename the 6gb file from whatever it is to ***.mpg then there must be dozens of shareware video splitters at download.com ( DVD video is mpg so you can simply rename the files as you can with VCD and SVCD )
If you use Nero Express to make a DVD ( you wil need the DVD plugin ) then when you add the video you can edit it before burning and simply delete the first or second half of the movie from being used in the output )
