Velorek placed this device in Moya to prevent pregnancy. Crais was working on an experiment to create a Peacekeeper Leviathan gunship but Velorek felt this was wrong and he made a contraceptive shield to keep it from happening. Several cycles later, D'Argo unintentionally removed the shield, allowing Moya to conceive Talyn.
