or get my mate to 'convert' it so i can start
it with a screw driver....

That's probably more than the car's worth! When I went to trade mine in '94 M reg, 95,000 miles, they valued it at £50!

Third ChoiceIf you can get at the back of the one of the locks or the ignition barrel you should find a number on it.
You can then order a new key with that number.
