Up to you really.
PNG24 (I think that's what yours is) can do different levels of transparency- gradients for example, but they come with a large filesize. PNG8 is much like GIF- good for flat blocks of colour and on/off transparency.
For stuff like this I'd use either GIF or PNG8- you'll get sharper text out of it too. GIFs work in all browsers though :)
