I want to make some brass plaques 3" * 4"I need them to come out at that size when I feed the images into the engraver - it'll be 12 plaques laid out in a 1' square sheet of pre-polished brass, allowing 2mm for the width of the outlining tool.

Well the question you will need to ask is, what DPI does the engraving machine require?I would probably assume you wouldn't want much more than 75 - 100 dpi for that, since it's hardly high resolution stuff..
