
cut and copy want you want , paste it into a new file and choose transparent background (if it isn't chosen as default) , then fiddle to your hearts content !!

what you think will be the background image or your page.
Before exporting choose "index transparency" in your transparency settings and use the eyedropper to select the background. If you preview, you should see that one color is now "cut out" of the image. Export. It may be somewhat different in different image editors, but that's the basics.
