# they look like a bunch of weirdos
and quite possibly sinister ones...

...but I watched a clip of BBC breakfast(I think it was) interviewing the editor of Panarama and showing clips from the program. Panarama didn't come across well.

They're an often sensationalist program and seem to me that they are not above bending the truth occasionally, or papering over things if it suits their line. I've often seen a quick apology in passing, between programs late at night, about inaccuracies in Panorama's reporting. It's all very well 'finding a crocodile and poking it with a stick' as Sweeney himself put it, but when you're up against someone as organised as Scientologists, cover your back first.

They've really blown it here, as Scientology should be an easy target yet it's the journos who'll probably come out of it badly. What the fuck was he doing shouting at that bloke like that?

I should add that I haven't seen the Panarama program, but a quick look around the net and the flak seems to be flying in the beeb's direction rather than the other way.

Christ I've got a bit serious.

# scientology - panorama
its worth watching the program before you criticize too much. John Sweeney was trying to do an objective piece of journalism, but the scientologists were extremely evasive and many refused to be interviewed or withdrew permission afterwards (presumably on request of the church). That Tom guy frequently interrupted Sweeney, refused to follow logic, belittled him, and stalked him. Sweeney was followed round by several different people both on foot and in cars.
Seems its their policy to dig up the dirt on people who criticize them or even ask questions they don't like the sound of. As part of their "fair game" policy they slander and intimidate anybody who doesnt support them.

# yeah it seemed so
in the various clips it all looked a mess... stressful viewing.

I've read Sweeney's piece since, and someone even turned up at his wedding.

"Is it any more retarded than Jesus dieing for our sins, or buddha sitting under a tree?"
"Yes. It's way more retarded."
