I haven't bothered getting to grips with the animation lark in gimp
but it does me okay at work for making pics. It's just if I was doing them in Photoshop I know they'd take half the time.

its extreemly simple
each frame as a layer
in layer name, add "(Xms)" where X is number of milliseconds for that frame to show
save as gif, and select the save as animation bit
done
filters-animation -playback for preview before you save
