Rhetorical sort of question then...if deleting threads is so unpopular, why are we as users/inmates/patients still able to do it?

It's not so much the in thread meassagesbeing deleted that are frowned on but deleting the main post when maybe half a dozen people are having a conversation or posting pictures just to avoid threadwaste. I think.
