I take your point to a certain degree
I make things 'work' technically, it's what I'm trained for. I also branched out to do the whole scheme thing as well, so in reality, I do about 90% of a full architect's work.
Agreed not all Architects are technically minded for sitework, but then again,
not all Builders know how to read drawings properly, or know one end of a material from another,
or know how to pick up the phone to ask a simple question to sort the problem out and insist on calling a halt to all
work until someone comes out to spend probably 5 mins on site at most pointing out how the builder can scratch his own arse before work will commence again.

Don't worry,
I know there are some good ones out there like my mate Nick in Athens. He's a friend of Dan Liebeskind ( who is not a good one ). My dad and I built the Lowry footbridge. It's still the best looking thing in the area and that includes the Lowry centre and the imperial war museum. That Leibeskind loves a shiny warehouse.

hahaha, swings and roundabouts really I guess.
I do some freelance lecturing at a local College, teaching building design, and technology to an
assorted bunch of builders, architects, surveyors etc in the same group.
I find encouraging communication in the groups may better help the situation in later years, fingers crossed :)
I always end up stressing that they'll learn about 5% of what they need from the idiots (inc. me) teaching them at the front of the class, and the other 95% from talking with each other and discussing problems/experience etc etc
I'll have to email you some .pdfs of my plans sometime for your critical analysis ;)
