couldn't you try using a data recovery tool on the hard disk?
it often works, as long as the hard disk hasn't been overwritten too much.

my pc wasn't working last week
the time on the pc was different to the time on the network.
whatever that means.
my pc had to be reformatted.
all my stuff was put on the network.
pc reformatted.
all my stuff put back on the pc.
cool.
come in this morning everything's gone
