it is (edit: now not) the size of the moon(i) optimise it further - fewer colours, lossy gif if you can do it (you can always link to a better quality version)
(ii) physically smaller'll help with the file size
(iii) that background moving about is doing you no favours. it'll probably be quite a bit smaller if you fix that
