# Headphones often make eeeee sounds
when electrical interference from other computer bits messes about with the audio signal

It's nothing to be worried about, but it's damn difficult to fix. Best thing is to get a USB soundcard cause then the audio electronics are away from the other circuitry.

# It goes on and off.
Sometimes it's always EEEEEing at me, sometimes it's going "EEEEblip.... EEEEEEEblipblip..." and sometimes it's completely silent.

Damn that interference. If it is interference. It could be goblins.

# You can generally tell if it's interference
as the sound relates to what the computer is currently doing.

My video card interferes with my sound card, so when I change windows and it has to redraw the screen, I hear a popping sound.
