We usually end up with attack and defence anyway;there's always some prime spot in a map that everyone's fighting for.
I've always been a bit shit at staying alive though. I got quite good at killing other folk in UO, but staying alive eluded me. I'd rather play a game than die in the first two minutes and go and make a drink to pass the time.
edit: I agree that variety is always a good thing though.
