Take colour samples from the 'middle shade' of each area and draw over the blown up version on a higher layer with background block colours, which is the boring bit, then from then on it's basically 'scribble and blur' for a few hours using the original as a guide to put in the details, but not slavishly, in places I just do whatever feels right or looks good, and keep going till it gets fun!
