There seemed to be far too many Rankinalikes and Pratchett has clearly been done to death, so I turned to the world's most widely read sciffy author, one Stanislaw Lem - a Pole, who writes in Polish funnily enough.
Ijon Tichy is a character who appears in a few of Lem's funnier books.
