# It's from a Korean word I believe.
I think one of their words (perhaps even the word 'American', I forget what it was for) was pronounced like it, but the American troops thought it was how they referred to themselves, and adopted it as a racist term towards east Asians.

I forget exactly what the history of it is, but it's racialist. Innit.
