# i alwaysa find it best
to write down the outline of a new plot, then leave it for a while. if it still seems like a good idea after a couple of months, it's worth doing.
i got bogged down doing poetry for a while, but it's so easy, it makes me feel slightly dirty.

# I find having plot outlines or decent plans seems to get in the way of my blind terrible writing.
I managed to do my first draft from start to finish in 2 weeks, without any idea of the plot or even purpose other than what would happen at the end of the very last chapter.

And that's why my second draft requires rewriting the entire thing, huzzah.

# hahahaha!
i know EXACTLY what you mean! i've had ideas and dreams that would make fantastic finales, but no idea about the beginning or middle!

# Mine wasn't even really a finale, it was just sort of a joke at the end.
The rest was a pointless amble around to lead up to that point.
I find that good novels need promises, problems and resolution - that is why I avoid all these things.

# that's why i'm doing my spotter's guide
it doesn't need a plotline, it's the same basic premise repeated over about 20 chapters

# Good idea.
It's better to not bother with plots or attempt human emotions or resolution because invariably all modern literature do them shockingly. It's like someone injecting pathos straight into your eyes.

I only wrote my first draft six months ago and on looking back on it I realised that I had attempted to show the real complications of emotion and ambitions, but it way just embarrassingly awful. Like reading a 15 year old emo's poetry or something.

# exactly!
some of the stuff i was writing would make you sick! i'll stick to "reference" books in future ;)

# I tried a reference book once...well twice actually.
It was a history book...of the future...which I made up...and essentially just consisted of dates and descriptions of events.

The other one was a beginner's guide to philosophy, psychology and the science of existence; I gave up even sooner on this than the first one.
