Err..He was serving in the Roman army in what is now Turkey. He never visited England, spoke English and probably knew nothing about England.
He was brought in by the Normans to try and stop the populace adoring their English heroes.
So, from a certain point of view, English nationalist zealots idolise an immigrant! (As do the Irish and the Scots)
