# I'm going to have to take exception to that
I've never heard of anyone going out 'to bash some poms'.

There's a profound difference between using a derogatory term for a group of people who have been exploited throughout history versus using a derogatory term for a group of people who have exploited people throughout history.

# In your mind at least.

# Yes, let's trivialise the human rights abuses and wholesale slaughter of the past
by assuming that making fun of someone from england is just as bad.

# Strange
I can't remember the last time I exploited someone.

# yes and there aren't slaves in most modern countries either.
but if you use a derogatory term for someone whose grandparents might have been slaves, you're bringing up a whole world of emotions for that person.

English people haven't had a bad run. It'd be nice if we lived in a world where black skin or big noses or ginger hair were all just thrown around as innocent ribbing, but some words have centuries of hatred behind them.

Sorry if you don't like being called a pom, but it's really not that bad in the scheme of things. I'm sure you can mull it over while you eat your delicious dinner and sleep in your comfortable bed.
