There was one in my garden the other night, which isn't particularly spectacular as it's a countryish commuter area.However it was in the front garden, which is totally exposed, about a metre away from a fully lit road, at about 9 o'clock while it was still light enough to see with the naked eye.
But then a car scared it away.

This was right on the main road too.On the pavement. I blame global warming and the nanny state and saturated fats.
