However, when commercial usage comes into it, then the issue gets pretty muddy.
As far as I see, in this case no-one from B3TA set out to make financial gain from their images.
But The Sun is maximising its profit by using free images.

The Sun's ratecard for a full colour page advert is over £55,000.
The paper rakes in over £1.7 Million in cover price on a Saturday.
Obviously, they buy in editorial images and pay their journalists.
But they are getting in editorial on the cheap AND they claim copyright on the images on their website.
It's something that can't just be ignored.

# when I create an image for commercial use,
I pay for all the photography used which means the profit is very little.
When I'm doing something for my blog or b3ta then I adopt the traditional b3tan model :-)
