Have you always hated Gervais?

I just ask because I think he is absolutely hilarious! And can't understand why people hate him so!

a lot of their humour is based around characters i would find intolerable in real life. i've tried to find them funny on a satirical level, but i just want to bludgeon their testes with a spiked club.
