YeahI tried (failed) to find the combination of pose and lighting. Kennedy in the original is quite washed out by the bright sun but trying to do that with Obama didn't seem to work.

you could tryCtrl + l mess with the levels, push the sliders about and whiten things a bit.
i only just discovered this in tattyshop and have been using it a fair bit of late to pale up that palin woman.
one thing i did do as well was duplicate the layer and work on the top one of the two, then i could erase the lightened hair/eyes/lips to reveal the unlightened ones below. long winded but it works.

i've just been trying to do it in paint.neti only ever use it to resize stuff, my default edit thing, can't remember how or if you can alter the eraser strength, definitely lightens things up though.
