and look at the sound card? It might have the manufacturer and model printed on it.

but its a neighbours computer and i dont really want to go pulling it all out (or the computer!)

read the report and find the bit about the audio card and see whet it reports. It may have a link to the manufacturer if it recognises the card.
Sadly there are too many platforms ( soundmax, cmedia, soundblaster etc. ) that are not similar in operation so a 'one driver fix' is unlikely.
