maybe I misread the review a bit :)
Focusing seemed a bit wobbly on a 40D as well, but in truth I couldn't give it much of a whirl given it rained non-stop all day; I just went with a gut feeling after twenty minutes and evaluating it's value to me as a £850 purchase. In the hands of someone far more skillful, I'm sure it would have some photographic value, perhaps for reasons such as your last sentence
