Do you have a craft shop chain in Oz?Sort of place you can get hold of watercolours, cross-stitch, beads, that kind of thing?
You can get hold of various sorts of paints and pens for t-shirt work, or there are transfer kits you can get so you can do the design on the PC and iron it onto the t-shirt, but I think they're pricier. Only real problem is when you get to the end of two hours' work and smudge it ;)
