For some reason I have been mentally associating Nvidia more with OpenGL and ATI more with DirectX

but I can no longer remember why and am probably just wrong.

Well yes, but I think maybe NVidia were earlier supporters of OGL.

Or that might just have been my imagination. But it made me like them more, anyway.
