but my old phone doesn't do bluetooth/ray whatever it's called and such, and i don't have the copper string to join it up to the computer, so i'm buggered. the fact that i never use the bloody thing anyway is neither here nor there.

which is a very basic model town car. When you get in it automatically pairs itslf with your phone ( after an initial 1 minute setup the very first time ) downloads the phonebook to the car and switches all the functions over to the steering wheel. She will even read a text out to you when it arrives like she's some sexy, female darth vader.
My BMW does not even do it all that simply ( or it might, but after using I-drive for 4 years I've still not got a clue what half of it does )

i'm only pleased you're old and smart enough to be able to function when it all goes horribly wrong. i'm content in the knowledge that you'll have a yankee screwdriver and swiss army knife stashed somewhere for emergencies.
edit/ and a decent hammer of course

I've owned a number of Triumph Vitesse's ( Mk1 and Mk 2 ) even had a Spitfire Mk 4 which I threw a 2.0ltr straight six from a Vitesse into ( had to buy a Le Mans hood for that ). I've had Vincent Hurricane. Any number of Mk1 Escorts, the finest being my Mexico and one cobbled together from lots of things based around a boxer engine which was made for stage 3 rallying. I've had a couple of Old Rovers, I had a Daimler Sovereign ( 1975 V12 ) and a V12 Jag XJS ( but they have more moving parts than a million clocks )
I also had a Laverda Jota.
I'm not always about the modern tech you know?

i mean no offence at all sir, you just remind me ( without having met you or really knowing anything about you really) of one of my dearest chums, bloody gadgets, if it's chrome or black with buttons he's like a magpie. he doesn't have your artistic talents though or come to that a practical bone in his body.

I am a gadget freak. I buy gadgets that barely ever leave the box. I have so much useless stuff it's crazy. Plus I can never throw anything away. Sitting here in my office I can see 6 video cards, 4 DVD players, a box full of processors and 3 motherboards without turning around. I replace the guts of my PCs at the rate of at least one new part a month and probably recycle my main one every 4-6 months. They keep bringing out new things and I get to thinking it looks better on paper so off I go to ebuyer.
I am about to change my phone from the trusty old HTC Universal which has served me well and that's going to be a momentous decision. It will not be an I phone of any description. I still am perplexed at the popularity of a phone that does some of the things that my phone was doing 3-4 years ago and then still falls short of many of my phones functions.
Don't worry. There are certain people on here that have dispensation and will never appear in my 'bad books'. You are one ;)

Being a gadget boy I've long ago discarded the yankee and SWK. I do of course have my trusty Leatherman on me at all times.
To be fair we ordered no frills on the car as it's little more than a shopping trolley and has replaced her 2 seater which was no longer practical. The Salesman mentioned it had 'bluetooth' but I took no notice, figuring that it was little more than a way to have your calls hand free as in most modern cars. This however is a lot more and I like it. I can plug any music device into it as it has a usb port in the glove box. It runs on windows so almost everything is supported including i-pod ( if I were daft enough to let someone inside with one of those things ) and video devices and every bit of it, phone, radio, cd, player, mp3 player, external video device etc. works from voice control or 6 buttons on the steering wheel.

ports, sockets and holes before the month is out, then you'll upgrade them all for even more complex/better ones, you're incorrigible :)
