I saw the film Men behind the Sun
similar territory but about the japanese experiemnting on the chinese.. and fictionalised in an exploitative manner. with a cat that may or may not of actually got killed.
I dunno why I rbing this up. other than to point out that I'm cool coz I watch films in full that are edited for british audiences.

other than one cat I can't be sure on the rat numbers
but if they did do it for real... i wouldn't of expected to be as editted.. just one take as in the uncut cannibal holocaust rather than jump cuts and soft focus..
I mostly think they got some exploitational bonus and mistique from claiming there's actual animal deaths... thus bringing more peoples money in for the lurid attraction or somethings.
