We only pay a licence fee because of the BBC. SO I think there'll be on licence fee but the BBC are going to have to evolve. I think they already know this and this why they're paying a lot of attention to the BBC as a web format.

We seem to be the only country that does charge a fee. I've noticed however that I watch the ads on the streamed TV asTHere's only aoubt 30-60 seconds of them and there's no time to do anything else.
So maybe overall the influence of an advert will be stronger having less.

You must be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV. It makes no difference what equipment you use - whether it’s a laptop, PC, mobile phone, digital box, DVD recorder or a TV set - you still need a licence.
You do not need a TV Licence to view video clips on the internet, as long as what you are viewing is not being shown on TV at the same time as you are viewing it.
contradictory advice there

You do not pay a license for the BBC. You pay the government for a license to operate broadcast receiving equipment. The BBC is funded in turn by the government for providing public service broadcasts.
