but it looks soooo niiiice while it's not doing those things...

(I agree with most of the points you make. FWIW I have an iPod touch and feel it's better value than the phone)

# I'm quite confident
that mine is still reasonably sexy despite being ancient.

I used one of those for a bit.
Still having physio for it now. :D

EDIT: I think the point is that if the iPhone gives a kick up the arse to the rest of the manufacturers to improve usability of the devices they want us to buy, then it can only be a good thing.

# It's better than lugging a laptop around
but gives me all the functionality of one which is why I still use it.
I doubt I'd be able to have a video call with a client, receive plans and documents, edit them on the train and send them back before I arrive at the client, with a Jesus phone.

Edit:// re: your edit: It gives a kick up the arse to other manufacturers by not including many important features that other manufacturers have included for years? I think I spotted a flaw there.
They made it shiny to attract the magpie students and pricks in advertising and we all know it. It does its job. But it does not do it as well as some and it is unable to do the same as many.

# Agreed. Of course you couldn't
I wouldn't get one expecting to be able to.

EDIT: re: your edit to my edit (this could get confusing). I agree that it does lack features considered fundamental to modern mobile phones, and that it's user are of a certain type. But, the UI is excellent. Having used a few of the new 'revolutionary' touch screen devices I would say that *pple got it right. It's just a shame they stopped speccing it in 2004.

# Touch screens suck
and they are impossible to keep clean.

Get a Blackberry Curve instead.

I used a Blackberry 8800 for a year. It was vastly superior to the BlackBerry Storm.

Also, wash your hands ;-)
