Did you re-load the Vista boot? It's overwritten when you install XP. When do you bluescreen?

I'm not sure what you're doing wrong. The most comprehensive guide I've used has been: apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_vista_and_xp_with_vista_installed_first__the_stepbystep_guide.htm

i did try this myself and failed - i think it was due to them having diff boot configs - one is .ini the other isnt

# Ah, yes.
When you install XP it rights over the vista boot (I don't know what it is) with the XP boot.ini.

You need to replace the boot.ini
