the deserving and undeserving poor..
It's kind of scary though, at the absolute peak of the boom there were still slightly less than a million on the dole. You have to wonder what they were doing

I have to wonder
considering the one time I tried to sign on they made it bloody difficult for me, and then I found a job before I got any money out of them. *mystified*.

If I lose my last paying gig
I'll have to stay on tax credits which will provide app. £30 less per week than on the dole and any other benefits.
Reason?
Get the odd ad-hoc job, declare it and ALL benefits are stopped until the DWP's paperwork is done.
Possibly a month or more.
Plus, you are accused of being self-employed and told you may have to pay back several weeks/months of dole money.
The form you are asked to fill in does not allow you to dispute this. You have to refuse to fill it in and give them a statement plus mountains of paperwork.

yep that's the idea
they make it difficult enough so that if you find work within about 3 months, you don't bother chasing them up for the difference.
It's crazy to witness all the deliberately over-complicated forms and procedures
/once signed on
