Edit:/ if you are getting a second machine and will still be running this one I recommend getting a vue rendercow and you'll be able to render the same scene on the 2 machines ( same with Bryce lightening ) providing they are networked.
You'll save a lot of time, or use the same time but be able to add more elements.

Yeah, I've played around with Carrara a bit, it is nice and fast,but it doesn't always 'react' in the way you expect. Have a tinker with it - you'll see what I mean.
Edit: Render-farm was my intention, yes indeed - but thanks for the tip.
Did you ever get Bryce Lightning to actually work? It always claimed to be running, but never seemed to speed the process up in the slightest.
