Now you've got me thinking
how hard it was to dock in 'Elite' without the docking computer.
- That *is* a docking port midway down the right hand side?

Yup :)
All random futuristic colonies fashioned out of bits of pyrite have one as standard :)

I am now reminded
of 'Eon' by Greg Bear.
Which is pointless telling you if you have not read it because it's been about 10 years since I read it so can't explain it.
Suffice to say there is a big hollow rock in space, with colonists.

Then teach them the ways of the Zamboni

Forgot to switch that off, yes... ooopsy.
And as regards the fill light, I did mess around with that quite a bit, but I wanted a more 'lurky' feel to it.
I like the tower best, in all honesty.

It's perfectly reasonable to have lens flare, given the sun direction.
yeah, the tower is very nicely lit.

The mountains are quite good...
is there a fractal generation scheme for them or is it just polygons and then a texture render.
( ,
Tue 3 Mar 2009, 10:14,

It's a procedural terrain, well 2 actually.
and it generates on the hoof each time you use one. It has some odd way of handling the large numbers of polygons, without causing the world to implode.
Something to do with computers, I think.

4 and a half hours rendering?
how big was it and are you using a dual core or apple core?
Very nice.

Dual Core. Upgrade machine arrives next week! \o/
It was late, and I'd left a few stray settings 'on' that should have been 'off'.
;-) I know for next time...
Edit: Oh, sorry - to answer your question: the scene file (with the textures folded in is about 20MB) rendered out at 1600x1000 as an alpha-ed psd / 72 dpi is roughly 15MB.

I like Vue.
Does nice skies.
I got this last week. Been a bit poorly so it remains in the box. I might install it and have a play today.
www.daz3d.com/i.x/software/carrara
Edit:/ if you are getting a second machine and will still be running this one I recommend getting a vue rendercow and you'll be able to render the same scene on the 2 machines ( same with Bryce lightening ) providing they are networked.
You'll save a lot of time, or use the same time but be able to add more elements.

Yeah, I've played around with Carrara a bit, it is nice and fast,
but it doesn't always 'react' in the way you expect. Have a tinker with it - you'll see what I mean.
Edit: Render-farm was my intention, yes indeed - but thanks for the tip.
Did you ever get Bryce Lightning to actually work? It always claimed to be running, but never seemed to speed the process up in the slightest.
