
you can export as obj 3ds lwo .ma for use in zbrush maya, Max and lightwave etcetera. It's used in loads of high profile games now, so I'd say not totally useless.

But the results tend to have a certain samey quality. The custom mesh support is a bugger to get working properly, or it was last time I looked.

You can get a good mesh and texture out of it to play with in Maya so as a simple base tool it's good.
Fallout 3, Oblivion, Football Manager 2007+ and Tiger woods golf 2006+ use d the sdk pretty much out of the box.
As you say, a bit of fun. I'm sure there are some opportunities for sticking heads scenes on b3ta when you can't get that look you want from google.
