# it's all very confusing.
it used to be red black and green. Blue was 3 phase live 3 and now it's neutral, black was neutral but is now live two and red isn't used at all.

but when you have an old kettle, where it's disintegrated inside, and only the merest fleck of rust is stopping you being fried when you attach power, quaint enquiries of "will it still work or have you broken it" will result in anything other than mocking :D

you tend to get a bit blasé about AC mains power and operate a 'touch it and see' policy to the question "is that live?".
I've had some cracking belts from colour CRTs when I've not discharged the tube or line output transformer before messing with them.
