I agree.The worst thing in the world (well, nearly) is people who phone you up and call themselves 'Mr This' or 'Mrs That'.
It's an honorific title. One does NOT bestow it upon oneself. It's crass and vulgar, and a signifier of ignorance.

I did succeed in bestowing a nickname upon myselfwhen i was in high school. I went up to random attractive girls (my confidence was so high in those days) and asked them, as if i had known them for years, if from now on they could call me "tiger"
