That since John Coltrane also recorded Blue Train, which has some eminently dance-able tracks on it, why one would then choose some wall of noise bump & squeak (Bad Miles Davies-esque) stuff as an example.

Which as you very correctly pointed out Giant Steps wasn't.

There is nothing wrong with liking Modal Jazz. Each to his/her/it's own.
